Edward Steichen

At Hamilton College, herbaceous peony ‘Edward Steichen’ welcomes visitors heading to Root Glen garden. As noted on saunderspeonies.com, this Saunders introduction was named for Edward Steichen, a colonel in World War I and pioneer in fashion photography. He was a long time Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art and also a hybridizer of delphiniums. The peony is a deep red single (though registration says semi-double), and older plants can benefit from support.
